Presidential Reading Challenge
December 28, 2008
This sounds like an interestig (ambitious) reading project: read book about each of our presidents! Here’s the link to the project which includes a list of the presidents and suggested titles.
In the spirit of supporting our next President, I think I will start with Abraham Lincoln.

December 28, 2008Dabbleboard
September 5, 2008Dabbleboard’s developers describe their (free) product as an “online digital whiteboard”. WHat I like about this tool is that you can use a computer and projector to present information - i.e. you don’t have to have a whiteboard (which I don’t). When drawing on Dabbleboard’s canvas, it can automatically recognize the shape you are drawing and clean it up for you. For example, your rectangles are nicely squared and your lines straightened. You can also turn this feature off to create freehand shapes or drawings. It is easy to add text to any drawing or diagram by simply typing it in. Go directly to Dabbleboard or watch the tutorial I have embedded below.

August 24, 2008Book Leveling Sites on the Web
August 24, 2008I just spent the past few days leveling my 5th grade classroom library. And, thanks to Charlie, my 14 year old “digital native” son who refused to use the Fountas and Pinnell Leveled Books for Readers text, I discovered a number of virtual leveled-books databases that make book leveling much less painful.

Tutpup: increase your literacy and numeracy skills
August 22, 2008I have set up a Waterside 5th grade account so my students can explore Tutpup. Go to the log in page I have linked to and use and enter the class code “waterside” tp log in. See what you find fun and instructive and then post a comment for your classmates to see.
